Report on India’s first National space Day

The first year B. Ed curriculum include subject associated activity, for which I have selected the topic ‘National Space Day’. This day was so special because India celebrated its first national space day on August 23, 2024, to commemorate the country’s successful landing of the chandrayaan-3 mission on the moon. The landing marked India as the fourth country to land on the moon and the first to land near its southern polar region. India is celebrating its maiden National Space Day on august 23, 2024 with the theme “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s space saga”. As a part of this topic, we conducted online collage making competition about space related pictures and reports, and also, I conducted a quiz competition presented in general hall of SNTC. This activity is very useful to gain knowledge about the particular topic. For this activity we given the name ‘CELESTIAL QUEST’.

Chandrayaan-3 mission accomplished safe and soft-landing of Vikram lander on the lunar surface on august 23, 2023. With this, India became the fourth country to land on the moon and first to land near the southern polar region of the moon. The soft-landing was followed by successful displacement of Pragyan Rover. The landing site was named ‘Shiva Shakthi’ point and august 23 was declared as the “National Space Day”. Recognizing this achievement, prime minister Narendra Modi proclaimed august 23 as “National Space Day” in India. The first National Space Day will be celebrated across India in 2024. The government of India is launching a month-long campaign to showcase the achievements of India’s space mission and to inspire the youth. This year theme, “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s space saga,” highlights the significant impact of space exploration on society and technology. A grand two-day event will take place at Bharat mandapam in honour of national space day, showcasing a range of high-profile sessions, interactive exhibitions, and significant announcements related to India’s space achievements. The president of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu graced the first national space day celebration at Bharat mandapam in new Delhi. She appreciated the dedicated scientists who have placed India’s space programme among the best space programs in the world by using minimum resources.

Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. It consists of Lander and Rover configuration. It will be launched by LVM3 from SDSC SHAR, Srihari Kota. The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration till 100km lunar orbit. The propulsion module has Spectro polarimetry of Habitable planet earth (SHAPE) payload to study the spectral and polarimetric measurements of earth from the lunar orbit.

‘CELESTIAL QUEST’ space related programme organized by department of physical science 2024-2026 batch. In our programme online collage making competition and quiz competition were conducted. We instructed rules and guidelines for creating collage. As per the rule we allowed time for sending collage from august 23 to before 9 PM on august 26. We got 6 collages from students who participated in this competition. We analyzed these 6 collages and selected 3 collages for final list. Arshid from social science department awarded the first prize. Second prize given to Asrin from English department. Third prize goes to Anupama from English department. Online collage making competition successfully completed. Before prize distribution I presented space related quiz at general hall. I already given a introduction about national space day. I selected total 6 questions related to space. Out of 6 questions, 4 questions get answered by Rony Roy from English department. Collage making competition prize distributed by principal Bibby miss and our HOD Lini miss. REPORT ON MARIE CURIE

On Science Week, I presented the inspiring life story of the famous scientist Marie Curie.

Marie Curie was born in 1867 in Warsaw, Poland, as Maria Sklodowska. From a young age, she showed great interest in learning, but at that time, women were not allowed to attend universities in her country. Despite these challenges, she studied secretly and dreamed of becoming a scientist.

Later, she moved to Paris and studied at the Sorbonne University, where she faced many difficulties, including poverty and health issues. There, she met Pierre Curie, a fellow scientist who became her husband and research partner. Together, they worked on the study of radioactivity and discovered two new elements—polonium and radium.

In 1903, Marie Curie became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, in Physics, along with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel. After Pierre's sudden death, she continued her research and made more achievements. In 1911, she received her second Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry, for her work on radium and polonium. She was the first person ever to win two Nobel Prizes in different scientific fields.

During World War I, she helped develop mobile X-ray units to treat wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Sadly, due to constant exposure to radiation, she became ill and passed away in 1934.

Through this presentation, I shared how Marie Curie’s dedication, courage, and love for science broke many barriers in a time when women had very few opportunities in the scientific world. She faced countless challenges—poverty, discrimination, personal loss, and health risks—but she never gave up on her dreams. Her discoveries not only changed the course of science but also saved lives, especially through her contributions to medicine and her efforts during World War I.

Marie Curie’s life is a powerful reminder that with strong determination, hard work, and passion, we can overcome obstacles and leave a lasting impact on the world. Her story continues to inspire students, scientists, and especially women, to believe in themselves and follow their dreams fearlessly just like she did.
